SAINT PAUL AND MEALS ON WHEELS
FEEDING GOD’S PEOPLE ONE HOME AT A TIME
Meals on Wheels was launched in Amarillo around 1971, and St. Paul United Methodist Women were there from the very beginning to help make it a success; that is 40 years of sponsorship of a weekly route by our UMW and church members and that is a LOT of meals!! We always have room for additional drivers, and it is usually a one hour commitment one Friday per month.
The time arrived when it was determined that a Sunday meal would be helpful for some of the weekly recipients, and that led to the Sunday Nutrition Program; a community outreach project sponsored by 12 churches that includes Saint Paul’s participation throughout October. Each Sunday one of the churches involved in the project coordinates the delivery of food and fellowship and the day proceeds as usual: our wonderful volunteers truly making a difference in the quality of life of our clients:lovely people who very often have no one in the community to depend on for help. Volunteer drivers may be their only connection to the world from Friday at noon until the following Monday and your warm smile, shining with God’s love for them, may be the only one they see all weekend – you can make a tremendous difference in their lives.
